As a new member of a family, puppies need guidance and leadership. Most families are able to provide the necessary basics in the beginning. However, as your pup matures, his body grows quickly while mentally they are still childlike. This is when most families begin to have trouble with a 50# exuberant toddler that doesn’t have any formal training. Untrained dogs are difficult family members to take out and about or while visitors are around. Not to mention the safety factor, such as a dog that will not come when it is called, perhaps running into the road and becoming injured or even worse, killed.

Many of our customers ask for obedience training while the dog is boarding with us and the family is on vacation. This is a good idea rather than just a boarding facility. This program keeps the dog stimulated and learning while staying at Dove Hill. Add the two daily lessons to multiple play times in the large fenced in area on a daily basis, and the result is one happy tired dog. Most of our repeat customers say their dog gets excited the moment they turn onto the gravel road.

Although we will work with the dog for even a limited amount of time, anything less than two weeks can only offer limited help. For this reason, we encourage a two week minimum stay which provides for an increased reliability on the newly learned skills. The cost for our training is $75 per day or $1050 for our recommended 14 day program. This fee includes daily board in our climate controlled first rate accommodations and multiple play times.

For those on a budget and interested in owning a well behaved dog, private lessons are another option. One on one hourly lessons are wonderful for the individual that wants to learn along with their dog. Homework is assigned, reviewed and evaluated at the next lesson. This ensures that each team moves at their own pace. The cost for a one on one lesson is $75 per hour. Appointments are set for weekends only, which seems to fit most schedules.
